Scoliosis Therapy (ISST)
A specialized treatment aimed at correcting spinal curvature, improving posture, relieving pain, and enhancing overall spinal function.
What is ISST?
ISST stands for The International Schroth 3-Dimensional Scoliosis Therapy (ISST), which was founded in 1921 by Katharina Schroth in Meissen, East Germany. Since that time, the Schroth Method of Three Dimensional Treatment has developed into the most internationally recognized conservative exercise-based, non-surgical treatment approach for adolescent and adult idiopathicscoliosis.
The Schroth method is a non-surgical scoliosis treatment that uses specific scoliosis exercises according to a patient’s unique spinal curve pattern. The exercises take a 3D approach to scoliosis management since they address the spine in all three anatomical planes – sagittal, frontal, and transverse. The primary goal for all patients is improved body mechanics and spinal stabilization to prevent further curve progression. For juveniles and adolescents, we strive for curve reduction while adult treatment adds an additional focus on pain management.
The purpose of the Schroth method is to create spinal balance and stability. Through deflexion, de-rotation, and elongation of the spine and rib cage, the body is able to return to a more ‘normal’ physiological position.

Scientific support of Schroth method
According to the latest research, the Schroth method in isolation is effective for reducing the Cobb angle and the trunk rotation angle and for improving the QoL in the short-term compared to no intervention or other conservative therapies in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (Ceballos-Laita et al., 2023).
ISST @ Blute
We will perform a detailed assessment of the child, adolescent or indeed adult in conjunction with analysis of any x-ray films available. Once the individual has been assessed and the scoliosis classified, an intensive and specific exercise programme will be developed.
Scoliosis Treatment in Blute Pilates and Physiotherapy center?
What are the main differences between Schroth method and physiotherapy?
The Schroth method is unique in its targeted approach to scoliosis, combining exercises for specific curves, breathing techniques, and an educational component that sets it apart from more general spinal physiotherapy methods.
